Eco friendly Valentine’s Day gifts
It can be very hard trying to reduce the amount of plastic we use on a daily basis and it can be even harder to achieve when a special occasion such as Valentine’s Day comes around. It’s nice to be able to add a special touch to a gift, but gift-giving can contribute to a lot of unnecessary waste.
We have put together a few of our favourite options for more eco-friendly and sustainable Valentines gifts.
If someone you love hasn’t tried our amazing, plastic-free range of shampoo and conditioner yet, then now is the time to show them you care! We have a range of gifts such as our plastic free shampoo and conditioner gift, our plastic free, vegan friendly beauty bag, featuring our shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body cream and face cream.
The traditional favourite on St. Valentine’s has always been flowers, but with growing concerns not just for the wasteful packaging but the cultivation and shipping of the flowers themselves often leaves a huge carbon footprint. However, it is still a lovely feeling to give and receive flowers, there is nothing nicer than admiring their natural beauty and allowing them to brighten up your home, if even only for a short while.
Thanks to Flowers from the Farm who are a multi award-winning, not-for-profit, co-operative of British cut flower growers, you can browse their website for details of small, independent farmers growing beautifully scented, seasonal flowers that are grown in a field near you. Today 90% of the flowers sold through UK florists, supermarkets and wholesalers are imported not just from Holland but flown from as far afield as Ecuador, Colombia, Kenya and even Ethiopia. Flowers from the Farm aims to reduce travel miles by promoting locally grown flowers and are developing a network of British cut flower growers across the country
Or you could create your own gift box by combining our Beauty Kubes with some other sustainable gifts from some great small, British businesses. (Read on for a discount on some sustainable gift packaging ideas!)
We love Vegan Chocolatier; founded in 2019 after turning choosing a vegan lifestyle, the founders spotted a gap in the market for high-end, vegan chocolate, particularly milk and white varieties. Their chocolate is carefully handmade using both rice and almond milks which they have combined to create incredible flavours. We particularly love their commitment to 100% biodegradable packaging!
For those who really want to celebrate with a loved one, you could try a bottle of this superb Sparkling Elderflower wine from Cornish sparkling wine producers Polgoon. This beautiful wine is available from one of our own fabulous stockists here in Cornwall; The Eden Project.
Nothing says you care more than a beautifully wrapped gift to someone you love. But sometimes we forget that gift wrapping can have a dramatic impact on the environment. Single-use products such as wrapping paper, tissue paper and cheap ribbon contribute to greenhouse gas emissions when they are produced, promote unnecessary deforestation and all-too-often result in plastics and other waste piling up in landfills. They say that by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the oceans, global warming will be irreversible, and landfills will be overflowing, so making eco-friendly gift-wrapping choices can have a huge, positive impact.
To help make that decision a little bit easier for you, we're working in partnership with Tiny Box Company to promote their recycled gift boxes, tissue paper and ribbon range with this exclusive 10% discount - BEAUTYK10. Just add it in the coupon code field at checkout or quote the code over the phone to their customer service team.
We especially love this beautiful recycled ribbon which looks like satin but Is made from 100% post-consumer waste PET bottles. The ribbon itself is durable, reusable and fully recyclable. Around 20% of the power used in its production is solar, and no oil is extracted from the ground at all (zero virgin plastic). Helping to reduce the amount of plastic waste this Valentine's and Mother's Day! The boxes are beautiful, durable, heavy duty and reusable too, so they will feel like part of the gift rather than just the packaging.
We hope we have helped you to consider some of the more sustainable gift solutions out there this Valentine’s Day!
